Welcoming Galway is a small city with fantastic nightlife and an infectious atmosphere. Outside of the Galway Arts Festival, there’s still plenty of live music in the Irish pubs to get the party started.
The Galway Races at Ballybrit Race Course west of Galway Airport attract a good crowd, as does Eyre Square, a green space with flags of previous ruling families who gave it its nickname - City of Tribes. To the south are cobbled streets housing brightly colored shops and restaurants.
Sights in Galway include its cathedral and city museum which has an interesting insight into the history of the city and Ireland. Lynch’s Castle is the last remaining 17th-century merchant house, and the Spanish Arch is a small section of city walls by the Corrib River, linking Galway Bay to huge Loch Corrib. Where river and ocean meet is Claddagh Park, a great spot for a picnic with a view.
Further around the coast is Salthill Promenade, home to Atlantaquaria, Ireland’s national aquarium, focussing on sealife off Irish shores. It’s a Christmas Day tradition to jump from Blackrock Diving Tower nearby into the icy Atlantic Ocean, though you may well spot some wag giving it a go.
Booking.com has an excellent range of Galway hotels, apartments and B&Bs to complete your stay.

I loved the hop on and off tour bus which we took up to salthill and back. The whole journey was narated, history unfolded I loved the traditional music in Taffees. We didn't have a bad meal wherever went . The architecture and history of galway is both beautiful and amazing. Our hotel was right next to the main train and bus station so ready access to main routes to airports and ferries etc. Local buses make getting around Galway very easy

We prefered to eat and drink in the West End and stayed clear of Shop Street other than when we hit the artists market where we could get locally made stuff. We had great food at Universal and grabbed drinks at the Bierhaus. We listened to fabulous music at the Crane- go for the experience (go upstairs) if nothing else! If you want to go to the Aran Islands, I recommend the Aran Island Ferries. They leave right from Galway Docks and take you to Inishmore. You get about 4 hours on the island (enough to take a horse and cart (a must!) to Dun Aonghasa and back but not much else) then it picks you up and returns via the Cliffs of Mohr. If you want longer or want a different island you'll have to go to one of the other ports (Doolin or Rossaveel) that will take you a while to get to. The weather was incredible, so we were outside the whole time and walked on the promendade to Salthill each night. We didn't have a car- the traffic was pretty heavy, so I was very glad we were on foot. If you do have a car, I would recommend parking at wherever you are staying and walking everywhere else if possible. If we had more time we would have ventured to Spiddal and to Connemara National Park, but we felt we had enough time to see Galway itself.

I found the hotel great.
I found the hotel great. It was 10 min drive to city center for shopping cafe and pubs. And salthill beach was 10min drive also.
Great location to be able to do a range of activities for couples or families
The hotel was great very child friendly
The staff was extremely nice from check-in to check-out. They were helpful and friendly. The hotel overall was clean and modern and had a cool vibe. There is plenty to do with the swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and plunge barrels. A well-equipped gym with recovery aids and a Boditrax scanner. The two restaurants were also very nice, I tried food from both, and they met my expectations. Great place to relax. Galway city center is a 2 minute walk and is very safe.
The location was amazing and the facilities were clean. 2 rooms with a double/single bed were cheaper than another hotel that was not close to the city center. We were able to leave our car on site even though we had checked out so we were able to spend extra time in Galway!!! The even let us leave our electronics in the office to give us piece of mind, rather than leave them in the car. Breakfast had good options.
We stayed 3 nights in the hotel. It id only about 10 minutes drive to Salthill Promenade and about 20 minutes drive to Galway city centre. It was very handy and we did the Hop on Hop off tour of the city and the following day the Aran island and Cliffs of Moher tour. The hotel has a lovely restaurant wwith deliecious food, I greatly recomment the rump steak. Our bedeoom was spacious, clean and beds really comfortable.
The hotel exceeded expectations. The room size was very decent (there are a lot of reviews that it's small, but maybe we just got lucky with the room). Room and hotel itself clean and cozy. Location can't be better - in the heart of an old city center, close to nice restaurants, pubs and historical landmarks. It's probably little noisy when the weather is good, but we stayed during the rain, so it was very quite.
Location was great, about a 10 min walk to Latin quarter and it felt super safe for two girls walking at night. The staff was great always friendly and filled our waters every time we passed. The room was nice and clean and beds were comfy. Free parking was great. A few shops around the hotel were nice too. The pub downstairs was fun and great for when you want a drink but don’t wanna walk to the city center.
This was our absolute favorite place that we stayed at in Ireland! The room was gorgeous, the bed was SO comfortable, and the included breakfast was the most amazing breakfast I have ever had at a hotel! We were so impressed with this place and will be recommending it to our family and friends when they visit Ireland. Thank you for an unforgettable stay.
Very nice house hotel in beautiful area of Salthill. Near to the beach, about 45 minutes by foot to the city centre of Galway. We took the middle size room and it was pleasant for 2 people and 3 days. The facility was quite poor, but for 3 days completely fine. The best was very comfy large bed.
The amenities were probably the best of any hotel I’ve ever been to. The gym was incredible, as were the pool/sauna/steam/cold plunge. Exceptional rooftop restaurant and nice bars on the ground floor. Staff was very polite and helpful. The location was also a short walk to the city center.
The property is in a very central location. It had a lot of history connected to the hotel. The breakfast was really nice. We had recently stayed in lots of hotels in Ireland and I would rate this the best breakfast. The staff are also very friendly.
We enjoyed our recent stay (Oct. 1-3) at Ardawn House.
The bed is very comfortable.
Free parking next to the hotel entrance.
The breakfast was delicious and varied.
Great location - within walking distance of the city center.
Highly recommend.
We stayed as part of trip for a wedding and it was lovely. The restaurant and bar and hotel staff are all excellent. Mo air conditioner in the room but they provided 2 fans. it was an unusually hot week in Ireland. Above 80.
surprisingly excellent hotel given the cost. Perfect location in between train station and city center. incredibly helpful staff, clean room, nice and updated facilities. would definitely stay here again.
It's a great location, only 20 min walk to city centre.. Clean rooms. Staff was friendly. The breakfast buffet was very extensive and fresh. Would definitely stay there again. Highly recommend!
Great location in Galway city centre and with secure parking. The lobby/bar/bistro are spacious and well appointed. Breakfast was very good. The bed was comfortable
I would recommend this hotel as being the best hotel in Galway at a good price. It probably was the best room we staying in our our whole holiday to Ireland.
